EU Grants and subsidies

The layout of a new project is influenced by rules under which grants and subsidies are obtained and these rules vary per country and region.
In the horticultural sector, there is an enormous amount of regulations for obtaining grants and subsidies that are set by both the Governments of specific countries and the European Union.

  • EU funding for EU members for (Rural Development)
Under the Rural Development policy 2007-2013, the EU has been contributing over €96 billion to Member States investments to improve competitiveness for farming to improve the quality of life and diversification of the rural economy. The agricultural expenditure is financed by two funds, which form part of the EU’s general budget: the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF) finances direct payments to farmers and measures to regulate agricultural markets such as intervention and export refunds, while the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) finances the rural development programs of the Member States. According to the principle of shared management, this task is delegated to the Member States.
  • Funding for EU non members – Pre-Accession Assistance programs (IPA)
The Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) offers assistance to countries engaged in the accession process to the European Union (EU) for the period 2007-2013.
